COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) -- Federal prosecutors say the man suspected of abducting a Columbia teen should not be released on bond because of his extensive criminal past.

Freddie Grant's attorneys ask in court documents that their client be released on a federal ammunition charge. During a search of Grant's house for 15-year-old Gabbiee Swainson, authorities found bullets and shotgun shells -- ammunition Grant is not allowed to have as a convicted felon.

Prosecutors say Grant should not be released because of convictions for drug, assault and criminal domestic violence convictions dating back to 1980. Authorities also say Grant fled military officers after he was accused of assault while stationed with the U.S. Army in Korea.

Grant's federal attorney has said he might plead guilty if he loses an argument to suppress certain evidence.

The Richland County Sheriff's Department has called a press conference for Friday to discuss the Swainson case.
