Kershaw County Sheriff Jim Matthews announced Thursday that 23-year-old Jonathan Edgar Sandoval is charged with criminal sexual conduct with a minor after DNA tests positively confirmed he had fathered a child with a 14-year-old.

KERSHAW COUNTY, SC (WACH) - Authorities say a Cassatt man is in custody after fathering a child with a 14-year-old girl.
Kershaw County Sheriff Jim Matthews announced Thursday that 23-year-old Jonathan Edgar Sandoval is charged with criminal sexual conduct with a minor after DNA tests positively confirmed he had fathered a child with a 14-year-old.
According to Matthews, deputies responded to a call at the Kershaw Health Emergency Room in Camden in March 2012. The 14-year-old victim had gone to the hospital where she met with mental health officials. Deputies determined she was a minor with a 10-week-old child.
The sheriff says the victim told deputies Sandoval fathered the child. DSS and deputies agreed the girl was not capable of caring for the infant. Arrangements were made to take the victim and the infant into protective custody.
Sandoval was taken into custody by the Kershaw County Sheriff's Office Thursday and is being detained in the Kershaw County Detention Center. If convicted, he faces up to 20 years in jail.
