ANDERSON, S.C. (AP) -- Anderson police say one of their officers shot and wounded a man who refused to drop a knife.
Sgt. David Creamer says police had been called to a duplex Wednesday that belonged to a friend of Maurice Johnson.
Creamer says Johnson was not threatening the other one or two people in the home. But Creamer says Johnson had refused to drop the weapon and began advancing on the officers with the knife when one of the officers fired.
Johnson was in fair condition being treated for a gunshot wound to the shoulder.
Creamer did not know what kind of knife Johnson had.
The officer has been placed on administrative leave while the State Law Enforcement Division investigates. His name was not released.
