COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) -- More than two dozen oil paintings depicting the Civil War are scheduled to go on display in South Carolina.

The exhibit of Mort Kunstler paintings opens Friday at the South Carolina State Museum.

"For Us the Living: The Civil War Art of Mort Kunstler" includes about 30 of the artist's paintings and sketches of historical scenes. One piece depicts Gen. Thomas "Stonewall" Jackson parting from his wife as his troops begin a march in February 1862.

Another painting shows Confederate submarine H.L. Hunley being prepared for its only battle against the USS Housatonic in Charleston Harbor in February 1864. The Hunley was the first sub in history to sink an enemy warship and is now being studied in a lab near Charleston.

The exhibit runs through April 7.
