USC lecture to focus on US-Israel sacred destiny

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) -- An author and scholar from Columbia University is scheduled to speak with students at the University of South Carolina and lecture on the idea that the United States and Israel share a special sacred destiny.

The school says Todd Gitlin is delivering the annual Solomon-Tenenbaum Lecture on Thursday on the subject of his book, "The Chosen Peoples: America, Israel and the Ordeals of Divine Election."

The lecture takes place at 8 p.m. in USC's Capstone House and is free and open to the public.

Gitlin is also meeting with students for a symposium from 1:30 p.m. to 2:45 p.m. in Rutledge Chapel on the university's Horseshoe.
