COLUMBIA (WACH) -- Richland County Sheriff Leon Lott has one more title to add to his name…black belt.
Friday afternoon Sheriff Lott received the belt from Mike Genova, who owns Genova Family Karate in Lexington.
The sheriff has been training with Mike for quite sometime now.
The event was hosted at Lake Carolina Elementary School. The students were attending an assembly talking about self control and discipline.
Sheriff Lott says getting this black belt is just another sign of hard work paying off.
“These things stand for what I believe in. Discipline, self control with the mind and body and that’s what a black belt is all about. It’s not about hurting people, it’s about being about to control yourself and everything around you,” says Sheriff Lott.
Genova also gave Sheriff Lott a real samurai sword from Japan.
