LANCASTER, S.C. (AP) -- More than 6 inches of rain fell in Lancaster and Chesterfield counties, causing flash floods.

Authorities said they had to rescue three drivers who became stranded in flood waters Monday morning. No injuries were reported, and the waters receded as the rain temporarily ended later in the morning.

More heavy rain could be coming. The National Weather Service issued a flood watch for the South Carolina mountains, where 2 to 4 inches of rain could fall. Forecasters say the heavy rain could spread across the western half of the state Tuesday.
