BLYTHEWOOD, S.C. (WACH) — Nothing inspires someone to learn like incentives.  Incentives can include a raise at work, honors at school, or if you are a high school student in South Carolina, a little education could mean winning a Mazda 3.

The South Carolina National Safety Council, in an effort to cut down on the number of teenaged related traffic collisions and fatalities, has teamed up with law enforcement, State Farm, and Wray Automotive for the “Celebrate My Drive” event on Saturday.

According to the council’s Executive Director Brooke Russell, 164 drivers between the ages of 15 and 24 died on Palmetto State roads in 2011.  She said that the Celebrate My Drive event, including entertainment, prizes, and education, is all aimed at reducing that number this year and beyond.

In an effort to build interest and attendance, a Mazda 3 will also be given away on Saturday, courtesy of Wray Automotive.

The Celebrate My Drive event is a national initiative, and also include events in Canada.

Saturday’s event is open to any South Carolina high school student and their parents on Saturday, September 15th at the Blythewood High School.  There is more information on the South Carolina National Safety Council’s website.
