COLUMBIA (WACH) - The report of mutiliated animals in the Spring Valley subdivision is false, according to Richland County Sheriff Leon Lott.
Lott says Wayne Alexander Crosby, 43, was arrested at his home around noon on Tuesday and is charged with obstruction of justice.
Deputies determined that Crosby's story of animals being killed in the subdivision did not add up, which lead to an investigation.
Lott says Crosby admitted he had lied and filed a false report. The report was filed on August 1 and said that Crosby found two dead cats and a dog that was decapitated and skinned. On August 17, Crosby reported that he found another decapitated cat.
"This is not a sick person killing animals. It's a sick person who made up a story," said Lott
Lott says that a total of four animals were found dead, but they either died from natural causes or were killed by other animals.
Crosby was transported to the Richland County jail.
