COLUMBIA (WACH) - Not everyone relaxed or slept in this Labor Day holiday.

Hundreds of runners laced up their shoes and participated in the 3rd annual Blythewood Labor Day Run early Monday morning. This is the first year the run is being sponsored by the city. Event's included a 5k and 10k run; along with a kids fun run.

Proceeds go to Blythewood Middle School. Much of it will also go to purchasing mile markers to represent the sacrifices of fallen heroes from the community.

Leanne Thompson, Vice President of the Blythewood Middle School Parent Teacher Organization, said they will remember more than just those in the armed forces.

"It can be your veterans, it can be your EMT's, your firefighters, your police. It is a way for us to commemorate them for what they do for us and our country."

The mile markers will be placed at the Blythewood Community Park Walk Path.
