GREENVILLE, S.C. (AP) -- Authorities say a mother is charged with homicide by child neglect after running over her 15-month-old daughter last month.
Greenville County deputies said Thursday they decided to arrest 45-year-old Rina Padilla Mencia because she left the child alone in the house when the girl managed to get out of the home and was run over by her mother's SUV on July 30.
Investigators say that deputies were at Padilla Mencia's home nine days before the fatal accident after Padilla Mencia called and said she couldn't find her 5-year-old son. Authorities say they have also found out about other times when Padilla Mencia's children weren't properly supervised.
Padilla Mencia is being held in the Greenville County jail. It wasn't clear if she had a lawyer.
