TAMPA, FL(WACH)--The money is flowing in Tampa this week with the Republican National Convention in town.
The city is expected to rake in more than a $150-million over the four day period.
Some business owners, however, are not experiencing the trickle down effect.
Instead of seeing an economic boost, some in the area say, for them, the convention is a big bust.
“I was looking forward to making a lot of money, says Wendy Miller, manager of Pita Republic, “with a lot of people being out on the streets, there’s nobody really on the streets at all. We didn’t make any money we spent more money than anything, we over ordered on everything so really we’ve not been using any of our food that we ordered.”
Miller says the protestors who’ve flocked to the city aren’t spending money either, many of them choosing to brown bag it while they’re here.
Store owners and operators tell WACH Fox’s Darryl Hood, they believe all the police presence is having a negative impact, keeping some people away.
Vendors say streets they thought would be filled with people, aren’t as crowded in their area which is about four blocks from the convention center.
A few other areas in downtown Tampa, Ybor City and Channelside Bay Plaza, seem to be doing well.
Darry Hood will report live from Tampa for the duration of the convention. Look for his updates here at midlandsconnect.com as well as on Good Day Columbia and WACH Fox News at Ten.
Fraendy Clervaud and Katie McKee will give live reports from the Democratic National Convention September 3rd through the 7th.
