SUMTER COUNTY (WACH)-- Military officials are investigating the death of an Airman assigned to Shaw Air Force Base.

A spokesperson says Senior Airman Alyssa A. Deveny, 21, was found dead Friday.

Authorities have ruled the death an apparent suicide.

"The men and women of Team Shaw are grieving the loss of a member of our Air Force family. Our thoughts and prayers are with family, friends and co-workers during this difficult time," said Col. Clay Hall, 20th Fighter Wing commander.

Deveny had been stationed at Shaw since March 2010.
