LEXINGTON COUNTY, SC (WACH) - A man accused of having sex with a teenager he met in an online chat room has been arrested, according to the Lexington County Sheriff's Department.

Sheriff James R. Metts says 22-year-old Derrick Bryant Amann of Surfside Beach was arrested Wednesday on a charge of second-degree criminal sexual conduct with a child between the ages of 11 and 14.

Arrest warrants say Amann drove from Surfside Beach to Gilbert for the purpose of engaging in sexual activity with a 14-year-old in a car that was parked in the woods along a driveway off Neely Wingard Road.

According to Metts, the teen's father reported the incident to the sheriff's department around 8:30 a.m. Tuesday after realizing that his child was missing around 6 a.m. the same morning. He contacted his child on a cell phone and drove to Neely Wingard Road where he saw a green 2000 Buick Regal sedan parked in the woods with "fogged up" windows.

Metts says the father told deputies his child exited the front passenger's side door of the sedan. He said Amann was sitting in the front seat of the car without a shirt on and with his shorts pulled down to his ankles.

Deputies responded to the scene shortly after the child's father encountered Amann, Metts said. Detectives reported the incident to the Horry County Sheriff's Office, which is conducting a follow-up investigation concerning Amann.

Amann was being held Wednesday at the Lexington County Detention Center on a $25,000 bond.
