DARLINGTON, SC (WACH, AP) - A former Darlington fire chief was arrested Friday morning and charged with misconduct in office.

According to the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division, James C. Stone, 71, is accused of using inmate labor to wash his personal vehicles, clean oysters and clean around his personal property while he was the chief of the Darlington City fire dpearment.

Arret warrants state the incidents happened between January 2009 and June.

Stone was booked at the Darlington County Detention Center after his arrest Friday.

It wasn't clear if Stone had an attorney. He resigned earlier this year after 50 years of service with the Darlington Fire Department.
