Columbia, S.C. (WACH)--Twin sisters gave birth to newborn babies at the Palmetto Baptist Hospital within minutes of each other.

Zaakira Mitchell and Shaakira White discovered that they were both pregnant at the same time last year.

"I guess it was meant to be."  Said, White, who gave birth to fraternal twins.

The 20-year-old twin sisters have shared countless memories together growing up and they are excited to share this experience.

"I called my mom and told her she was like oh my gosh, oh my gosh, I knew it." Said White.

The new moms gave birth at the same hospital and also shared the same doctor.

"I've never actually seen twins pregnant at the same time," said Dr.  James David Ferguson.  "Let alone delivering on the same day, none of my friends have seen this either."

The cousins are the first grandchidren in the twin's family.

The parents plan to raise the cousins closely.
