RICHLAND COUNTY, SC (WACH) -- A Richland County Sheriff's deputy battling stage 4 lung cancer is getting his prayers answered this week.

Deputy Mark Ryan's Irmo home is getting a much need makeover. The roof is being repaired and his yard is getting a new look thanks to the United Methodist Church Salkehatchies mission team.

Deputy Ryan isn’t just battling cancer; he's also raising three daughters by himself. That's why the mission team stepped in to help. The 11 member team is getting its hands dirty for a good cause.

“We've been blessed so much and we're just so joyful that we want to go and give back and try and bless others as best we can so we're here trying to help Mr. Mark Ryan; trying to give him a leg up on his house. He's been trying to do stuff around his house for a while,” says Chris Conley, the site manager.

Deputy Ryan's house is one of six around the Greater Columbia Metro area the Salkehatchies mission teams are repairing this week. The Richland County Sheriff’s Foundation is paying for all of the materials needed for the makeover.
