RICHLAND COUNTY, SC (WACH) --  The Richland County Sheriff’s Department says a body found Sunday morning is being investigated as a homicide.

According to the sheriff's department, two workers stumbled upon the remains while clearing a path in a wooded area on Boswell Road near Fairfield Road, which is north of Columbia.  The victim’s identity has not been released.

Investigators say it appears the person was shot.

Coroner Gary Watts says he doesn't know who the victim was, or even if the victim was a man or woman. Watts says an autopsy is planned Monday.

Sheriff's spokeswoman Arielle Riposta says two people clearing a path in the woods off U.S. 321 found the body.
