COLUMBIA (WACH) -- Columbia Police have arrested the man claiming to have a bomb inside the Rite Aid on Harden Street in Five Points.

According to police spokeswoman Jennifer Timmons, the suspect is Gregg Hiers a homeless man that police have delt with in the past.

Hiers was taken out of the Rite Aid on a strecher about two hours after authorities first reponded.

Timmons tells WACH Fox the bomb squad technicians examined the suspected explosive device and determined it was not dangerous.

Authorities from USC Police, the Richland County Sheriff's Department , the Columbia-Richland Fire Department and the FBI responded to the scene.

Several streets were closed and some buildings were evacuated.

No injuries were reported.

As of Sunday evening, Hiers had not been booked at the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center.
