TALKEETNA, AK (WACH/IBTimes) - There is a term used in the early days of the twentieth century to describe hardcore Democrats who would only vote for Democratic Party Candidates.  Those folks described themselves as "yellow-dog democrats," the phrase meaning the voters would vote for an old yellow dog before they would vote for a Republican.

A town in Alaska has taken that phrase to heart, but with another animal.

If think you don't take politics seriously, then visit the town of Talkeetna, Alaska, where an orange cat has been the mayor for 15 years.

As the network IBTimes shows us, elected officials don't have to be human to take office. Meet Stubbs, an orange tabby, who just happens to be the duly elected mayor of Talkeenta, Alaska.
