SALUDA COUNTY, SC (WACH) - A 75-year-old man who was reported as missing from Saluda County last week is alive and well, according to the Saluda County Sheriff's Office.

Sheriff Luther Nossett says the exact whereabouts of Jerry Walter Starnes are unknown, but his welfare has been determeind and he is living his life as he pleases.

Authorities say Starnes checked out of a Clinton hotel around 10 a.m. Tuesday.

Starnes' family reported him as missing Tuesday, July 10 after he had not been seen since June 28.

The sheriff's office reported at that time that Starnes had recently mentioned to family members that he was considering leaving the Saluda area.

The investigation by the Saluda County Sheriff's Office is closed.
