COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) -- Gov. Nikki Haley's campaign has reimbursed taxpayers more than $7,700 for her security during out-of-state fundraising events.

Haley's campaign spokeswoman Marisa Crawford said Wednesday that reimbursement checks were written the same day the campaign received invoices from the State Law Enforcement Division and the Department of Natural Resources.

State law bars taxpayer funds from being used for campaign events. The amount is a reimbursement for Haley's first 18 months in office.

Media outlets previously reported that SLED had already spent more than $16,000 through December on security for Haley's private fundraising.

SLED Chief Mark Keel said Wednesday that included each trip's total cost for agents. He says the governor's attorneys worked with his office to bill only for costs incurred specifically for a fundraiser held during a trip.
