BAMBERG, SC (WACH) - A local politician is giving back to his community in order to beat the heat this summer.

Bamberg State Representative Bakari Sellers donated more than 60 fans to senior citizens at the Bamberg County Office on Aging. The fans come from Seller's own money; a little more than $1,000 altogether.

Sellers says the triple digit temperatures can be deadly for seniors without air conditioning or another escape from the heat. It is his way of thanking the elders that have supported him.

"A lot of these people here today helped raise me. Now it is my turn because I have the means and the availability to give back. To me, it is a token. And hopefully, we can keep our seniors cool," said Sellers.

The fans will go to seniors in Bamberg, Barnwell, and Colleton Counties that are at risk for a heat-related illness.
