COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) -- South Carolina's top prosecutor is urging people around the state to take a stand against cases of elder abuse.

Attorney General Alan Wilson says people can take advantage of older people in many ways. He says cases of financial abuse cost older victims nearly $3 billion a year.

Wilson says he is teaming up with the North American Securities Administrators Association to offer tools to identify and report financial abuse or exploitation.

Securities or investment fraud should be reported to the securities division of the South Carolina Attorney General's Office. Other types of elder abuse should be reported to the South Carolina Department of Health and Human Services or to authorities.
