Gilbert man dies after single-car accident

LEXINGTON, S.C. --

Lexington Co.(WACH) A Sunday morning crash has resulted in the death of a Lexington County man.

 

The accident happened around 4:15 a.m. Lexington County Coroner Harry O. Harmon said Allen Chad Smith, 18 of Gilbert, was traveling eastbound on Juniper Springs Road when he lost control of his 2001 Ford Mustang and went to the right side of the road. He the overcorrected and went off the left side of the road, hitting a tree.

 

Authorities say Smith was not wearing a seatbelt and was pronounced dead at the scene from injuries he received in the accident. An autopsy will be performed to determine the cause of death.

 

The accident remains under investigation by the Lexington County Coroner's office and the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
