ORANGEBURG, SC (WACH) - Three finalists have been named in South Carolina State University's search for an interim president.

The Interim President Search committee submitted the names of Ivan W. Banks, ED.D., Leonard McIntyre, Ph.D., and Cynthia Warrick, Ph.D, RPh to the SC State University Board of Trustees for consideration.

The university received 23 applications for the interim president opening.

According to the university, Banks is currently the provost and vice president for academic affairs and Cheyney University of Pennsylvania. McIntyre is currently an associate professor in the Department of Educational Leadership and the Textbooks & Learning Materials Program (TLMP) director at SC State University. Warrick is currently a senior fellow at Howard University's School of Pharmacy, Center for Minority Health Services Research in Washington, DC.

"SC State University continues to be one of America’s great institutions of higher education,” said Dr. John H. Corbitt, acting chairman of the Board of Trustees. “As Trustees we are working hard to do what the state legislature and the Governor have assigned us to do. We are looking forward to the selection of an interim president; and I want everyone to know that the University will continue to move forward."

Authorities say the three finalists will interview on the SC State University campus Wednesday.

In March, former school President George Cooper resigned amid concerns over financial mismanagement and possible criminal and ethics allegations. Cooper fired eight high level employees in February for not following university rules; but offered no further details. Since then, six Board of Trustee members have also resigned.
