COLUMBIA (WACH) - Columbia's "top cop" received his fourth star from Columbia Mayor Steve Benjamin and city council Tuesday night.

Chief Randy Scott was honored with his fourth star as a sympolic gestrure for his dedication and commitment to Columbia citizens Monday night in the City Council Chambers. This is the first time a City of Columbia Police Chief has earned a fourth star, according to the Columbia Police Deparment.

“This is such a wonderful honor for me. I am especially pleased that my parents could take part. I am grateful that Mayor Benjamin and Council have faith and confidence in me and Columbia police officers. I wear this fourth star for the entire Department. We will continue to move this city forward in a positive direction," said Chief Scott.

According to the department, Mayor Benjamin and city council wanted to begin a new tradition of having a 4-star Chief leading the police department.

“We are proud of Chief Scott and all the Columbia Police Department has accomplished under his leadership,” said Columbia Mayor Steve Benjamin. “This fourth star is a symbol of our sincere gratitude and heartfelt thanks as we look forward to his continued success for many years to come.”
