Man killed after riding on mattress in truck bed identified

Authorities say 20-year-old Wallace Albert Burgess of Manning died at Clarendon Memorial Hospital from trauma after he fell out of the truck Sunday afternoon.

MANNING, S.C. (AP) -- Clarendon County authorities have released the name of a man killed when the mattress he was sitting on in the back of a pickup truck blew onto a road.

Authorities say 20-year-old Wallace Albert Burgess of Manning died at Clarendon Memorial Hospital from trauma after he fell out of the truck Sunday afternoon.

The accident happened on a road about five miles north of Lake Marion.

The driver of the pickup truck and another passenger were not hurt.
