ORANGEBURG (WACH) -- The search for a new president continues, as a South Carolina State University committee is scheduled to meet Thursday.

The SCSU Board of Trustees Interim President Screening Committee will meet on campus to continue screening candidates, two months after former school president Dr. George Cooper resigned.

Dr. Cooper left his post at the Orangeburg campus amid harsh criticism stemming from his decision to fire several high-ranking administrators and failing to explain why.  The Faculty Senate released a letter saying the university was in a "state of crisis" under Cooper's leadership and his administration.

The Interim President Screening Committee has now been given the challenge of finding Cooper's replacement.

"It is the goal of the committee to be as transparent as possible during this very serious process, and to communicate with all stakeholders often so that they are informed and engaged in the process", explains committee chairperson Dr. John H. Corbitt.

The committee has already met with nearly two dozen candidates.
