COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) -- South Carolina's highest court is hearing a lawsuit that could determine if dozens of candidates will be kept from appearing on ballots for this year's elections.
Justices on Tuesday are taking up a legal challenge from two Lexington County voters who are suing the state Democratic and Republican parties and the South Carolina Election Commission.
The voters say a handful of candidates for this year's elections didn't properly file statements of economic interests and therefore should not be allowed to be on ballots.
State law requires candidates to file paperwork detailing financial information, like any income received from public entities, as well as names of any lobbyists in the immediate family.
South Carolina's primary is June 12. The general election is November 6.
