Anderson County Coroner Greg Shore said the pilot was practicing takeoffs and landings when the aircraft crashed about 1 p.m. Friday. He was the only person on board.
Fire crews and paramedics rushed to the four-seat Cirrus aircraft, which was crumpled and smoldering in a field at the airport just south of the city of Anderson.
The name of the pilot has not been released.
