CASSATT, S.C. (WACH) - A fight between brothers took a deadly turn Tuesday afternoon, according to the Kershaw County Sheriff's Department.
Sheriff Jim Matthews says Robert Daniel Hilton, 30, is accused of shooting and killing his brother, Michael Paul Hilton, 35, and has been charged with murder.
Based statements from witnesses, the department believes the brothers were drinking with several other individuals while using currently unidentified pills before getting into an argument. The argument escalated and Robert Hilton supposedly shot his brother with a 12 gauge shotgun through the front door of a mobile home.
When deputies arrived at the home on Thoroughfare Branch Road, Michael Hilton was found dead from a gunshot wound to his side on the front porch.
"This is a pretty sad situation for the family. One son is dead and the other is in jail for killing him," said Sheriff Matthews. "Substance abuse, whether it be alcohol, legal or illegal drugs, mixed together, never produces a good result. We see far too much of this kind of activity which ultimately rips families apart."
Robert Hilton is currently in custody at the Kershaw County Detention Center.
