COLUMBIA (WACH) - A man was carjacked at gunpoint Thursday night.

The 18-year-old suspect, Savoyy Luvme Woodard, carjacked a 1995 Ford Explorer Thursday night, according to the Richland County Sheriff's Department. He fled the scene in the vehicle, which was seen traveling down Columbia College Drive by reporting officers around 1:30 a.m. Friday.

Deputies say Woodard drove the vehicle over a curb and through a park where he struck a tree.

After hitting the tree, Woodard fled from the vehicle on foot.

Richland County Sheriff's Deputies and the Richland County K-9 unit were able to track and arrest Woodard.

Woodard was arrested for carjacking the vehicle at gun point. He was also cited for reckless driving and leaving the scene of an accident on private property.

The damage to the Explorer is estimated to be around $3,500.
