AYNOR, S.C. (AP) -- An employee at an Aynor daycare is facing a cruelty to children charge after police say she was caught on tape assaulting an infant with a chair.

Horry County police say 58-year-old Mariam Rabon Owens was arrested Thursday. Police say they watched video of Owens striking the child in the face with a plastic chair while working at the daycare at Salem Baptist Church last week.

Authorities say Owens has worked at the daycare for 25 years and has been written up twice for violating the center's "no spanking" policy.

Owens told authorities she wasn't taking enough medication for her anxiety and that she pushed the chair toward the child's face but didn't hit him.

Owens is being held on $500 bond. It wasn't clear if she had an attorney.
