Volunteer firefighter Jordan Wade Baird is charged with arson. He's accused of intentionally setting two fires in Sumter County.

COLUMBIA (WACH) - Forestry Commission Law Enforcement Chief David West says Jordan Wade Baird started two fires, called 911 to report them and then responded to the fires himself.

West says Baird confessed to the committing the arsons which happened in mid-to-late March of this year. Baird is accused of using a lighter in his truck to ignite pinestraw. The fires were stared near 80 Biddle rd. and at the intersection of Browntown and Leonard Brown roads in Sumter County.

Baird is being held at the Sumter-Lee County Detention Center. Baird faces two counts of woods arson from the Forestry Commission and five additional charges of making false calls to 911 by the Sumter County Sheriff’s Department.
