Wednesday night fire in Orangeburg leaves one dead

Orangeburg, SC (WACH) -A late evening fire leaves one person dead.

According to an incident report from the Orangeburg Department of Public Safety, about 9:30pm Wednesday, fire crews were sent to a house on Sherrie Lane in Orangeburg. Fire crews found the building fully involved when they arrived.  Firefighters weren't able to enter the building until the fire was under control.  Once firemen entered the building, deputies from the Orangeburg County Sheriff's Office, entered the house and found a body in the bathroom. The body couldn't be identified due to severe burns.  The victim has since been identified as 81-year old Lonnie Mae Blakeney.

The fire is currently under investigation by SLED.
