COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) -- South Carolina's only federally recognized tribe is heading to court to ask a judge to allow it to have gambling on its reservation in York County.

The Catawba Indian Nation sued the state in January, saying its 1993 settlement with the state and federal governments allows it to have as much gambling as is permitted in other areas of South Carolina.

The tribe says that means since gambling cruises are allowed to leave from the state's ports, it should be allowed to offer the same games at a new gambling hall near Rock Hill.

The state says gambling is still illegal and the boats have to head to international waters before bets are allowed.

Monday's hearing is at the Richland County courthouse.
