COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) -- A Georgia couple is accusing Camden Military Academy of allowing the hazing of their 13-year-old son when he enrolled nearly four years ago.

The State newspaper reported the federal lawsuit says the hazing began with verbal assaults and eventually resulted in a sexual assault.

Camden Military Academy is an all-male school for students in grades 7 to 12 that emphasizes self-confidence and leadership.

The lawsuit says school officials condoned hazing, ignored injuries and downplayed complaints about his treatment.

The newspaper did not use the family's name to protect the boy's identity.

The defendants include headmaster Eric Boland and five staff members. Boland denies the school condones hazing.

Kershaw County Sheriff Jim Matthews says his staff investigated an alleged sexual assault but no charges were filed.
