COLUMBIA (WACH) -- A two-day hearing in the Carter Strange case will take place this week to determine if a 14-year-old suspect will be tried as an adult.

The hearing will be held Tuesday and Wednesday at the Richland County Judicial Center.

Eight teens were charged in the June 20, 2011 attack that left Strange in the hospital for days as he went through facial reconstructive surgery.

Authorities say he was heading home when he was attacked near the Five Points area in Columbia.

Last month a family court judge decided a 15-year-old suspect in the beating would not be tried as an adult.

That teen is charged with assault and battery by a mob.

Four other suspects have already been punished in the juvenile justice system.

Family Court Judge Leslie Riddle sentenced three 17-year-olds to probation until their 18th birthday. A 13-year-old was placed on probation for two years.

They were also placed on house arrest for three months and ordered to avoid the victim and his family.

Two others are awaiting trial.
