Columbia, SC (WACH) - A parent training program adds a different twist on getting new dads ready for fatherhood.

There are several classes that teach new mothers about what to expect when expecting, however, many times the father is left out.

Daddy Boot Camp is a course held at Palmetto Health Richland that is geared toward teaching expecting fathers the challenges and joys of fatherhood.

The instructor encourages men to get involved from the beginning.

"I make it real clear to the parents that there's nothing that I can do," said Justin Keller, class instructor.  "Even with my years of experience and training and being a parent myself that's absolutley going to prepare them for fatherhood, this is maily to get them asking questions.

Dads in training learned about life during pregnancy, helping at home, delivery room duties, caring for mom and the baby after the birth, and safety.

For more information on how to enroll visit the Palmetto Health Richland website or call 803-296-CARE.
