ORANGEBURG, S.C. (WACH, AP) -- A South Carolina mother has pleaded guilty to two counts of murder in the deaths of her two young sons whose bodies were found in a car in a river in 2010.
Shaquan Duley pleaded guilty in court in Orangeburg on Friday morning.
Prosecutors say there was no deal with Duley.
She faces between 30 years and life in prison when she is sentenced. Circuit Judge Edgar Dickson postponed sentencing until another hearing the week of March 26.
Shaquan Duley begged for mercy from the judge and apologized for negative attention brought to the community by the case.
"I know I am a good person, so please, your honor, have mercy," she said.
The bodies of 2-year-old Devean and 18-month-old Ja'van were found in the Edisto River on August 16, 2010. Duley initially told police she fell asleep at the wheel before the car went into the river about 40 miles south of Columbia.
Police later determined the boys were suffocated in a motel.
