RICHLAND COUNTY (WACH) -- Richland School District Two students showed off their culinary skills Thursday, all while promoting healthy lifestyles.

Five students from area schools competed in the Sodexo Future Chefs: Healthy Breakfast Challenge at Muller Road Middle School.

Their dishes had to be healthy, and were judged on criteria like taste originality, presentation and ingredients.

Michala Keiner of Kelly Middle School cooked up her fruity French toast for the competition.

“My family eats a lot of French toast so I put a healthy twist to it,” said Keiner after she finished her dish.

Keiner adds it’s important to eat healthy because it makes you feel better.

Richland School District Two Chairman Calvin Jackson also served as one of the judges. He calls the competition a fun way to get kids excited about making healthy lifestyles.

“It’s like a combination of Iron Chef and Chopped,” said Jackson. “Except no one’s getting chopped here. Everyone’s a winner.”

The winning student from each participating district will be considered for the national finals.
