COLUMBIA (WACH ) -- The winter months may have been much milder this year, nonetheless, The Salvation Army is calling on you to help those in need.
The organization's Woodyard Fund program will wrap up this week. The fund helps struggling individuals and families pay their utility bills.
This year The Salvation Army received a little more than $120,000 in donations for the fund, which is about $20,000 less than last year. Yet the number people assisted by the fund increased substantially. Officials say no donation is too small.
“It makes a huge difference in the community. I can't tell you what a relief it is for some families. especially those who've never had to come to people like The Salvation Army for help and they get the lights either on when they've been turned off or they find that with the help of the Woodyard fund, they're able to get the disconnect notice pushed back,” said Major Roger Coulson, corps officer at The Salvation Army.
