COLUMBIA (WACH)--Parents carry their children in the car around town but are they strapped in properly?
Friday morning, new officers with the Columbia Police Department offered checks and help to parents installing their child safety seats.
The department teamed up with Safe Kids Midlands and the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control (DHEC) to ensure that children are properly restrained in vehicles.
Earlier this week, CPD taught a child safety class to several new officers as part of the Child/Passenger Technician Class.
The event will assist them in their certification process.
Experienced and new law enforcement personnel from various agencies across the Midlands were on hand for Friday's event.
