Here is your Good Day Columbia GDC Morning WACH for 3-8-12:
There are several special events we celebrated today. Probably most importantly, it is International Woman’s Day. International Women's Day has been observed since in the early 1900's, a time of great expansion and turbulence in the industrialized world that saw booming population growth and the rise of radical ideologies. Janet and Alexis shared their lists of favorite famous women in history, including Oprah, Lucille Ball, Michelle Obama, and Stephanie Kwolek, the inventor of Kevlar.
It is also National Shred Day, where we are all reminded to SHRED our personal documents to help cut down on ID theft. A few things of note, although the cases of ID theft continue to drop, here are still over 8 million thefts each year, costing over $37 billion dollars. There are several things that you can do, however, to minimize your exposure to the risk of being a victim.
- shred anything with your social security number
- shred deposit and credit card slips
- shred any listings of your passwords and pins
- be careful with Internet surfing, and providing any personal information.
As part of the shred day, there are 3 locations offering free shredding today in the midlands, including the Home Depot at Sandhills, the Carolina Coliseum, and the Shred 360 facility in Irmo. Want to learn more about shredding? Glad you asked! Click HERE. Ever see a shreder in action? Check it out HERE.
William Starrett joined us to talk about the upcoming performance of Sleeping Beauty, and took Tyler to the dance studio to see if he had what it takes to be a ballet dancer. Want to see if he does? Click HERE. For info on the performance itself, check it HERE.
Jeffry Lampkin joined us for some goold ol' fashion country cooking, celebrating National School Breakfast week! Check out some of his secret recipies HERE.
