Six hospitalized after white powder found at corrections facility

COLUMBIA (WACH)-- Six people were taken to the hospital after officials say a corrections worker opened a package that had a white powder inside.

The incident happened at the Watkins Pre-Release Center on Saint Andrews Terrace Road Wednesday morning.

Officials say six people, including corrections workers, an inmate and a Columbia firefighters were all exposed to the powder and taken to a hospital as a precaution.

SLED, the FBI, and the Columbia-Richland Fire Department are all investigating.

Health officials say the building is safe.
