GREENVILLE, S.C. (AP) -- A company that makes electric buses in Greenville plans to hire 900 fewer workers than originally planned.
Proterra originally announced last year that it would bring 1,300 jobs over seven years and make a $30 million investment at its new plant at Clemson University's International Center for Automotive Research.
The Greenville News reports that the company now plans to create just 400 jobs and invest $16 million.
Proterra says company officials have learned how to make the buses more efficiently.
State officials say the incentives package for Proterra has been cut because the company is creating fewer jobs.
Proterra says it has hired more than 100 employees for its new plant and has sold 12 of its battery-powered buses.
