ANDERSON, S.C. (AP) -- Police say a judge's sports utility vehicle has been recovered in Newberry County after a 90-mile chase.

Circuit Judge Cordell Maddox's SUV was stolen around 5 p.m. Tuesday from a store in Anderson. The judge was in the store and was not hurt.

Officers chased the suspect up Interstate 85 to I-26 in Spartanburg County and south to Newberry County where deputies had placed spike strips to try to stop him.

Fifty-year-old William Edward Freeman of Anderson was stopped near state Highway 121.

Newberry County Sheriff Lee Foster says the vehicle collided with a Laurens County deputy's patrol car during the chase. The officer was not hurt.

Freeman faces charges of failure to stop for police and assault. It was not clear if he has a lawyer.
