CLEMSON, S.C. (AP) -- Leaders in higher education are coming to Clemson University to discuss achievement for minority students.
Starting Sunday, Clemson is hosting the 10th National Conference on Best Practices in Achievement for Students of Color. The conference runs through Tuesday.
Keynote speakers at the event include Jack Thomas, president of Western Illinois University, and Deborah Santiago, vice president of policy and research for Excelencia in Education.
Thomas has been an American Council on Education Fellow and is a graduate of the Harvard Leadership Program. Santiago has worked in federal government as a policy analyst at the Congressional Research Service and the U.S. Department of Education and was the deputy director of the White House Initiative on Educational Excellence for Hispanic Americans.
There are also programs on science initiatives and promoting campus diversity.
