Premier fashion event to be held in Columbia

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WACH) - A New York fasion designer will showcase his spring collection in Columbia Thursday night.

Chris Benz, a well-known fashion designer, is showcasing his spring collection at the Girls Night Out event, which is presented by EdVenture Children's Museum and Coplon's clothing store.

Girls Night Out is a signature fundariser for the museum and a premier fashion event for the Midlands. It is scheduled to kick off at 7 p.m. Thursday.

The event is in its tenth year, but this is the first year the event has been held at 701 Whaley, a popular, upscale event venue in downtown Columbia. Due to growing ticket demand, the event was moved to accomadate more people.

Benz will interact with VIP ticket holders during a mix and mingle reception prior to showinging his 2012 collection on the runway.

The Chris Benz collection has been featured in magazines worldwide as well as on the red carpet. His designs have been featured in The New York Times, Vanity Fair, Harper’s Bazaar, Vogue, Women’s Wear Daily, and international editions of Marie Claire, Glamour and InStyle.

Girls Night Out is organized each year by EdVenture’s Discovery Council. The Discovery Council is a volunteer group that presents two fundraising events throughout the year, all open to the public.

The evening will include music from DJ Chris Wenner, a performance by Unbound Dance Company, hors d’oeuvres, and cocktails from local favorites.

Tickets are available for purchase online or by phone at (803) 400-1162.

Ticket prices per person are $50 general admission and $65 reserved seating. VIP runway seating is sold out.

VIP admission begins at 7 p.m. and general and reserved seating admission begins at 7:30 p.m. All proceeds benefit educational outreach programs at EdVenture.
